FIRST LOOK: A PREVIEW OF OUTSTANDING WORKS TO BE PRESENTED AT
LAPADA’S BERKELEY SQUARE FAIR
LAPADA’s Berkeley Square Fair, London’s leading art fair, is set
to return to its iconic location in Berkeley Square from 27 September – 1 October 2023
(preview on 26 September). Enclosed is a First Look, an early curation of outstanding works
that esteemed LAPADA members will be presenting, demonstrating the quality and variety of
the 2023 fair offering. Covering centuries of design, antiquities, jewellery and art, the Berkeley
Square Fair will serve, once again, to exemplify the strength of the UK art trade.
Horton - Bust of a Child, Henry Weekes (1807 – 1877). A fine example of Weekes’ early marble
work before he became one of the most successful sculptors of the Victorian era. Assistant
to Sir Frances Chantry and the sculptor of the first bust of Queen Victoria, Weekes’ most
notable work is the Manufacturers group on the Albert Memorial, London.
Spicer Warin - A Fabergé enamelled frame along with an enamelled box, frame and a miniature
Carle Fabergé (1846 – 1920). Circa 1896 - 1908. A gift from Queen Alexandra Feodorovna
containing a photograph of Her Majesty and a note reading, “for dear little Molly, my
heart.”
Adrian Alan - A suite of three Giallo Antico marble ‘Grand Tour’ models of ruins celebrating
the Corinthian order. Attributed to Benedetto Boschetti Italy, circa 1860 84cm x 39cm x 15cm.
Exemplary of the souvenirs collected by the milord in Italy on ‘Grand Tours’.
Hatchwell Antiques - Grand piano PH-Bow by Andreas Christensen, Danish Circa 1937 Walnut, brass,
and black lacquer. Acrylic keys. This grand piano designed by the avant garde Danish
architect-designer, Poul Henningsen in 1937. Made from walnut, brass and black lacquer, the piano
is one of just eight made by Andreas Christensen Flygler of Copenhagen who collaborated with
some of the best contemporary architects.
Architectural Heritage - Abraham Lincoln, David Jones (1878 – 1951) England, Circa 1924.
11.5cm x 8.3cm x 2.5cm. A woodblock engraving to accompany the poem, John Drinkwater,
from Libellus Lapidum, a collection of satirical verse published by St Dominic’s Press
Ditchling, Sussex and 350 Oxford Street.
Isherwood Fine Art - 17th Century portrait of a boy with his dog in a landscape Attributed
to Willem Wissing (1656 – 1887) and studio Circa 1685. Size 128.3cm x 96.5cm. Wissing is
believed to have been born in Amsterdam. He received his artistic training in The Hague as
one of three pupils of Arnold van Ravesteyn (c.1650 – 1690).
Tanya Baxter Contemporary - Rose Rose 12, Bridget Riley (b.1931) 2011. Size 37.3cm x 25cm.
A classic Riley work in oil on linen, signed and dated on the lower right edge.
The Parker Gallery - Portrait Of A Gentleman, Possibly Judge James Ball, And His Dog, Seated
Before A Landscape John Trotter (1756-1792), Dublin 88.8 x 70.8 cm. John Trotter studied at
the Dublin Society Schools. He travelled to Rome to learn the technique of the Old Masters,
where he stayed for sixteen years (c. 1759-73). On his return from Italy, he set up as a
portrait painter in Dublin where he showed his work at various exhibitions and continued
to paint until his death in 1792.
Karen Taylor Fine Art - A red and a blue macaw, Willliam Hayes (1735 – 1802) 1778. Size
42cm x 30cm. A pair of pen and black ink and watercolour studies of macaws. Hayes worked
from live specimens kept in captivity and from birds in the collection of one of his
patrons, the Duchess of Portland, depicting them at life size whenever possible.
Sandra Cronan - A Boucheron peacock feather necklace and brooch, Circa 1883. Size 13cm x 4.5cm
An important peacock feather necklace believed to have been made for the Grand Duke Alexis of
Russia. Set with sapphire, emeralds and diamonds, the feather is detachable and may be worn as
a brooch or hair ornament.
Agatha AG Antiques - Vintage Bulgari Cabochon Ruby and Diamond Dress Ring Bulgari Circa 1970
A striking Bulgari ruby and diamond ring, set with two rows of cabochon rubies accented with
diamond set sides.
The Old Corkscrew - A coin-mounted tankard and box 1896. These pieces were made using coins
discovered as part of a treasure trove which was stored above the vestry of Crediton Church
in Devonshire. The story is inscribed on the base of the tankard.
Peartree Collection - An extraordinary silver strong box casket Barnard & Sons 1923. An unusual
piece believed to be a commission of a copy of a specific casket, with features reminiscent of
13th – 16th century silverwork. It has been worked and oxidized to give the appearance of
rusting iron.
Lennox Cato - ircular-top specimen wood centre table from the Galle district of Sri Lanka,
Circa 1850. Size 73cm x 153cm. This object incorporates old ivory and has been registered
with Defra. The fine tilt-top table is inlaid with indigenous woods and ivory, and the
inlaid ivory disc at the centre is inscribed with an elephant.
Adrian Alan - air of Napoléon III Gilt-Bronze, Chines Lacquer and Ebonised Side Cabinets by
Charles-Guillaume Wickelsen Circa 1865 France, Paris. These magnificent side cabinets with
panelled doors of Japanese black and yellow lacquer, are by Charles Winckelsen, a pre
eminent cabinetmaker from the Napoléon III period who is famed for his high-quality production.
