ABOUT THIS FAIR: |
Responding to the Covid-19 Crisis, The Antique Dealer Fairs Limited will be launching their inaugural virtual fair from 15-31 May 2020 with the real life event of Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair scheduled in the Fairs Calendar to take place 11-13 September 2020. This initiative will be a bespoke design produced in house and will reflect the layout of the luxury marquee in the prestigious National Trust Petworth Park where the flagship fair normally takes place. Eager exhibitors have signed up to take part, more than sixty in total eager not to miss out on the chance to be part of a curated shopping opportunity to exhibit to international collectors, designers and interested members of the public who form something of a captive audience during the current Government lockdown. Each exhibitor has their own entry showcasing highlighted stock alongside a link to their website for visitors to peruse at their leisure and contact the dealer direct. Sales can begin on 15 May, when The Virtual Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair opens, as originally scheduled. This extra two weeks (the fair would normally have closed on Sunday 17 May) gives exhibitors the best chance of doing business at this difficult time. There is a diverse range of antiques and fine art for sale, as well as links relating to the event and Petworth House. |

WHY YOU SHOULD LOG ON TO THIS VIRTUAL FAIR: |
Exhibitors are mindful of some pent up demand from buyers and a climate where an enticing object might be just the diversion from the woes of the current climate. Temptations include a charming oil on canvas portrait of Mary Anne St Quintin, late 18th century English School, £6,500 from Karen Taylor Fine Art; a set of four 17th century walnut caned side chairs, £2,500 from first time exhibitor Elaine Phillips Antiques; a French lyre mantel clock, £2,850 from BBC Antiques Road show expert Richard Price; a colourful Bristol Delft charger, c.1740, £995 from Roger de Ville Antiques; a pair of Regency ormolu and bronze cut glass candelabra, 1820, £3,600 from Fileman Antiques; an excellent example of a silver pass, by J Westwood, for the Shakespeare Jubilee Festival of 1769, featuring the head of Shakespeare, £385 from historic medal specialist Timothy Millett; a Daum Frères Spring glass beaker vase, c.1900, £3,450 from Hickmet Fine Arts; and a fabulous snow flake diamond cluster and white gold ring, £1,850 from Greenstein Antiques.
Organiser Ingrid Nilson of The Antiques Dealers Fair Limited told ANF: “This foray into the world of virtual fairs is proving to be an exciting and safe alternative that offers new ways of engaging with and shopping for art and antiques, accessible the world over. Many people are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and have lost holiday plans, so the dealers are offering alternative treats to perk up lockdown.” We are still hoping that The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair can open to the public in the grounds of Petworth House in Petworth, West Sussex with the revised date of Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September 2020, when everyone can also visit the National Trust property and the market town of Petworth itself. In the meantime, we hope that people enjoy the virtual journey while staying safe in the comfort of their own homes.” |
