Modern Antiquarian - Bright Young Things doing business in times of Corona

Dealers reaching out with new ways to sell in the Corona Crisis Part 1:

Bright young things Margaret Schwartz and Kelly Maguire over at US antiques and design brand Modern Antiquarian are regular shoppers over here in the UK and have made many friends with the dealers at fairs and showrooms around the country.

All their plans were in place for their return trip to exhibit at High Point Market Antiques & Design Centre in April - a big cross country drive from NY to NC, but as we know ....

So the girls created a novel idea to capture their market via their regular newsletter using artist Meagan Maguire's (yes sister to Kelly) graphic interpretation of the stock they planned to take to HPMKT - most of which was sourced in the UK on an Antiques Diva buying tour last year.

We love this ingenious idea and applaud yet another way our creative industry is responding to the strictures of the crisis.

Modern Antiquarian:

This week we would have been setting up in High Point and getting ready to show off a fabulous collection of garden antiques. We've been working diligently to build a collection of unique and beautiful gardenalia and we think we've done just that.

Life in the time of the coronavirus means we have to adapt and evolve. Some days that is easier said than done. When you come to Modern Antiquarian you can count on a mix of understanding, compassion, and a healthy dose of keep calm and carry on. So, in that spirit, we have pulled together a different kind of garden show for you. We worked with the talented Meagan Maguire to make our garden dreams become a reality!

This week we will share images of three different garden settings, each carefully designed to show small collections of our hand-picked garden items. These places are what we dream of when we can gather outside in the warmth with our friends and family and celebrate life as it should be! The illustrations highlight only a sample of what we have to offer so please keep an eye on our Instagram stories for a steady stream of beautiful inventory and more inspirational garden images to buoy your spirits! And of course, visit our site to shop them all.

Bird Bath

A beautifully shaped English cast stone bird bath. Purchased in the lovely countryside of England

The first garden image is an invitation to sit and reflect for a moment or two before wandering down a covered path and letting nature take over your imagination. Maybe you sit on a pelican and observe a sassy frog looking back at you before moving on to see what birds are drinking from the bath. Please enjoy and remember, we are here to support you during this time.

Pelican Zoo Bench

This Pelican Garden Bench was rescued from a local zoo in England. It was made by a local foundry and adds a touch of whimsy to any garden.

Stone Frog

The English are known for their gardens. This charming stone frog has a fabulous personality and it was love at first sight!

Hear the birds singing as they busily ready their nests in the large dovecote. Imagine colorful foods made fresh from garden ingredients and plated on beautiful, flow blue antique china. Did you know food looks best on blue plates? It's an old food stylist's tip I picked up during my time at Martha Stewart.
