ABOUT THIS FAIR:

A superb sculpture by the renowned artist Philip Blacker will be unveiled at The Chester Decorative Antiques & Art Fair, 7–9 February 2020 and will be for sale from Rowles Fine Art from Ludlow The sculpture is a half life-size bronze signed and numbered from an edition of 6.

Philip Blacker (b.1949) is one of the world’s leading equestrian sculptors. He is best known for his life size and over life size horses which can be seen worldwide.  A successful jockey for the first 14 year of his adult life he retired from the saddle 1983 to concentrate on his sculptural career. Since then he has carried out many large and small scale commissions worldwide, starting with Red Rum at Aintree Racecourse in 1988, followed by bronzes of many championship racehorses around the world.

Speaking about the new work to be shown at the Chester Fair, Philip says: "The mare and foal has been a favourite source of inspiration for me for years. Not only does it make a wonderful composition of harmonious maternity, but the subject also conjures up an image of optimism. Who knows what this foal will turn out to be? Maybe a future champion. I have for a long time wanted to create a half-life size bronze of this subject, as it is to my mind a perfect scale. Large enough to go in an outside setting, but not so large that it overpowers its surroundings.’
