 Petersfield Antiques Fair - 31 January – 2 February 2020

Ellis Fine Art  - An important pair of chairs dating from 1810-1815 and featuring striking decorative brass inlay. They were designed under the influence of the French cabinetmaker Georges Jacob. ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Now celebrating its 46th year since it started in the early 1970’s, the Petersfield Antiques Fair 31 January - 2 February 2020, organised by Penman Antiques Fairs returns to the Hampshire town with a strong line up of diverse exhibitors and considered to be one of the most respected and vetted fair in the Home Counties outside London.

The fair is a draw for collectors and homemakers with superb Art Nouveau and Art Deco bronzes and glass to English porcelain to a fabulous choice of traditional Georgian and Victorian furniture and paintings to be shown by Mike Melody Antiques, Malcolm Bowdery Antiques and Wilsons Antiques from Worthing.

Art aficionados can enjoy English watercolours from the 19th and twentieth century belonging to Michael St John and Baron Fine Art while Ashleigh House offer 19th century oil marine and landscape paintings. Pottery and porcelain from a range of famous factories is strongly represented by Jupiter Antiques, Drove House Antiques and, with English pottery, Roger de Ville. Mark J. West specialises in British and European glass while Shine on Design will be showing Art Deco furniture, lighting and designer pieces.

Thirty-seven specialist dealers take part at this popular twice annual event that offers pieces for every collector, from less than £25 to more than £25,000. All items are labelled with their price, age and description and carefully vetted by experts for quality and authenticity.

A number of dealers will be showing for the first time, bringing even greater variety to the pieces on offer. They include Granta Fine Art with Modern British paintings and Trevor Towner with fine silverware.

Says Fair organiser Caroline Penman: "Our fair offers an excellent opportunity for antique dealers to sell without the increasingly high overheads of the high street."  It is a busy season for Penman Fairs with the long running and respected Chelsea Antiques Fair on the horizon from 18-20 March.  Our preview to follow.

Among many important treasures going on sale will be a superb pair of Russian Empire chairs dating from 1810-1815. Designed under the influence of the famous French cabinetmaker Georges Jacob, they will be offered by Ellis Fine Art from Yorkshire for £25,000, a price reflecting their importance. As Keith Ellis explains, the chairs display the best of 19th century grandeur and will be a major addition to any major collection of antiques.
