Sutcliffe Galleries - A superb depiction of Knaresborough by the artist William Mellor (1831-1931).

ABOUT THIS FAIR:

A superb Art Nouveau bronze panel which once belonged to the West Yorkshire company of George Hattersley of Keighley will be going on sale at The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair at The Great Yorkshire Showground, from 29th – 31st October 2021.

This unique example of Yorkshire history recalls the leading role played by the George Hattersley textile factory in the history of loom making and design. Formed in 1789 at Stubbings Mill by George Hattersley, the company initially manufactured nuts, bolts, screws and small parts for textile machines. In 1834 the first innovative loom was made and the company went on to great success making a large range of looms over 120 years for all sectors of the market, from the narrow band looms to sheeting looms. At one time, they had about 26 basic models in their catalogue. After great success in the 20th century, the company finally closed in 1983 after the decline in loom manufacturing processes.

The impressive panel was designed by the Italian maker Egido Boninsegna (1869-1948) and shown at The Milan international World Exhibition of 1906 where it was presented to the well-known Keighley textile manufacturers. Belonging to exhibitors Brian Ashbee & Wes Wotruba, the panel is now a very decorative piece and fine example of Art Nouveau Italian design. It will be on sale for £1750.00.
