ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Collectors of Continental glass decorated with silver will be delighted to see the eye-catching display at The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair at The Great Yorkshire Showground, from 24 – 26 January 2020.

Yorkshire antique dealer Michael Lines of John Newton Antiques from East Yorkshire is championing a new major collecting area when he exhibits at the fair. Michael specialises in fine English and European porcelain and studio pottery with pieces by many of the major factories. As he explains, collecting trends are changing many younger collectors are looking for interesting, decorative pieces by known artists and makers from the mid-20th century.

Porcelain and glass makers such as Rosenthal, Hutschenreuther, Lenox Belleek, Plankenhammer and Krauthiem & Adelberg sent their vases, cups, saucers, coffee pots and other pieces to the silver overlay specialist studios of Friedrich Deusch & Co, Friedrich Wilhelm Spahr & Co and others who added the silver decoration to produce stunning beautiful pieces. The cut glass comes from The Josephine Glassworks, also known as “Josephinenhütte” in Silesia. All of these pieces are decorated in silver overlay by Friedrich Deusch and date from 1925 - 1935.

"Silver overlay is proving very popular with a range of collectors, from those who admire Mid-Century design to others who find it fits most comfortably into a modern home, more minimalist than the chintzy look of some antique collectors, and others who see its Art Deco appeal."
