In 1997, the independent antiques dealers' newspaper, "Antiques & Art Independent", was published for the first time and went on to publish over half a million copies.  It was published on the internet a few months later when in 1998, Antiques & Art Independent linked up with an American antiques newspaper and established an internet edition to promote the British trade on both sides of the Atlantic. 

In  2001 Antiques & Art Independent became a weekly newspaper published only on the internet retaining the domain name www.antiquesnews.co.uk as it continues to do to this day.  

Editor and publisher Gail McLeod joined Antiquesnews in February 2008 from a background in the antiques trade having had some experience in Fleet Street in the late 1970s.  Co-founder of WEADA, the West of England Antique Dealers’ Association, and long time committee member of the former BABAADA ( Bath and Bradford on Avon Antique Dealers’ Association), Gail also co-organises the respected annual Bath Decorative and Antiques Fair, founded by Robin Coleman and now in its 20th year at the Pavilion in Bath.  Gail’s other business is Satellite Sales Antiques, which is an antiques sourcing and courier company working with American antique dealers who buy in England.

Following ten successful years on the internet, and with a new editor and publisher, the decision was made to re-launch Antiquesnews in October 2008 with a new masthead, an elegant, easy to navigate layout  and regularly updated feature and editorial content.

The Trade Index appearing on each page is a direct link to the entire websites of enterprising British antique dealers, event organizers, service providers and our associate publications around the world.   www.antiquesnews.co.uk  appears on the websites of leading antiques media in America, Australia, and Continental Europe and these publications can also be viewed from links at the bottom of each page on Antiquesnews, which continues to be known overseas as Antiques & Art Independent

Trade Roundabout as the name implies is a guide to who is where and what is happening at at all  levels of the British antiques trade with occasional coverage of the antiques trade abroad of  particular interest to UK dealers.

Antiquesnews  will continue in the spirit of Antiques & Art Independent promoting the British antiques trade around the world and our aim is to establish worldwide contacts between private and trade buyers and sellers. In the past decade the newspaper has become the British antiques trade website to see and be seen in and we look forward to continuing this trend in the years to come.
