Hickmet Fine Arts - 'Phoenician Dancer' by Chiparus. A fabulous cold painted Art Deco bronze figure of a Ballet Russes dancer in full costume holding a striking pose with excellent enamel painted colour and fine hand finished detail. Raised on a portoro marble base, signed D H Chiparus and inscribed Etling Paris. Priced at £12,500.

ABOUT THIS FAIR:

The Petersfield Antiques Fair always has plenty to inspire collectors and the next event 1-3 February 2019 offers a great hunting ground with some rather dazzling agate handled silver fish servers by William Chawner, London c 1822, crested with 5 ears of wheat.  Priced at £2,200 on sale from Shredds of London.

Organisers Penman Fairs have run this highly successful event for more than 20 years, continuing its successful run from when was actually founded in the early 1970s at Petersfield’s Festival Hall.
The event takes place twice each year, February and Spetmber and aims to offer pieces for every collector, from less than £25 to more than £25,000.

Caroline Penman told ANF: "You can buy all sorts of interesting, unusual and traditional art and antiques at The Petersfield Antiques Fair, and those fish servers are rather special!"

Around forty specialist dealers from across the country will be at the fair including
Morgan Strickland Decorative Arts dealing in superb Arts & Crafts silver and glass, Twentieth Century Glamour will be tempting withEuropean Art Deco porcelain figures and designer costume jewellery and traditional Georgian and Victorian furniture and paintings will be shown by Mike Melody Antiques and Wilsons Antiques from Worthing.

Antiques in Oxford - Liberty & Co Tudric pewter inkwell with a square section pen tray. The cylindrical inkwell is cast in low relief with art nouveau entrelac panels. The tray has four blue-green enamel roundels while the cover is set with a rectangular blue-green enamel panel.  It is 15.5cm square and proced at £950.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Making a debut this time will be Van Halm & Van Halm, Portobello Road, London.  Wouter Van Elm told ANF: “Wouter and Allard, father and son, have a combined experience of over 75 years dealing in oriental ceramics... The backbone of our stock is Chinese export porcelain from approximately 1580-1800 with special emphasis on blue and white wares from the Kangxi period (1662-1722). We also stock Japanese porcelain from the late 17th century.”

Also exhibiting will be jewellery specialists Plaza, Shapiro & Co. and T.Robert; silver specialists S. & A. Marsh, art dealers Michael St John with English watercolours and Ashleigh House with oils and watercolours; and ceramics dealers Jupiter Antiques, David Scriven Antiques, Bottlebrook Antiques and Roger de Ville. Regular exhibitor David Hickmet of Hickmet Fine Art specialises in Art Nouveau and Art Deco bronze sculpture, and will be showing pieces including a fabulous painted bronze figure of a ‘Phoenician Dancer’ from the famous Ballet Russes, striking a pose, by the highly collectable sculptor Demetre Chiparus. Dating from 1930 and 19cm tall, it is priced at £12,500. Also from Hickmet Fine Art will be an iconic glass car mascot by René Lalique titled ‘Chrysis’, 13.5cm high and dating from 1931.

The fair is not datelined, and all exhibits are vetted for authenticity and correct labelling.
