AlFayez at Alfies: The UK’s Largest Permanent Selling Collection of Middle Eastern Antiques

AlFayez at Alfies is where East now truly meets West with the launch of an impressive new department of Middle Eastern antiques and antiquities with numerous new shops occupying the 4000 square foot space, which encompass the whole of the lower-ground floor as well as a newly refurbished area of the ground floor. This will make AlFayez the UK’s largest permanent collection of Middle Eastern Antiques.

The AlFayez aesthetic will include an architectural staircase, sculpture of the Roc bird of Arabian Nights legend and styled water feature, as well as a lounge inspired by the souks of the Middle East and North Africa, where customers will be invited to sip on Arabian coffee while they consider their purchases from the comprehensive catalogue of Middle Eastern antiquities, ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles and more from £100 to £100,000.

The remaining 4 floors in the 35,000 square feet of antiques, vintage and design from the Western Hemisphere, will provide the perfect meeting of East and West design.

AlFayez, playing cleverly on the brand name Alfies, opened to the public on 1 June in advance of the major press launch on Thursday 21 June which will celebrate yet another unique initiative from Bennie Gray the founder of Alfies and Grays Antiques in Mayfair.

A number of the existing dealers at Grays Mews will move across to AlFayez including Antique Choices Marco Pollo Solaimani Al Khatib Antiques and Bakhtar Art

Other exciting developments upstairs at Alfies are taking place with the influx of Vintage Modes collective moving over from Grays Mews where building work is now complete on the new hub on the second floor.  Dealers in the collective include Gillian Horsup Vintage Jewellery, Unicorn and Arabella Bianco

When Bennie Gray bought Alfies Antique Market in 1976, a building that was previously home to Jordan’s Department Store, he had a clear vision of creating an unpretentious indoor antiques market. He quickly launched Alfies – named after his jazz musician father – and the centre went from strength to strength. Originally occupying just one floor of the building, Alfies Antique Centre today covers five floors, complete with over 70 dealers and a charming roof-top café and terrace.

Alfies has been the launch pad for many young dealers who have gone on to open their own shops on Church Street helping to establish what has now become known as the Marylebone Antiques Quarter,  an important antiques and design hub in the this vibrant area of North London.
