Dawson’s Design At Home Auction Partners with Pure Evil - 7 April 2019

Dawson’s Auctioneers and Mark Hill, 20th century design expert and specialist on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, have partnered with renowned street artist Charles Uzzell–Edwards, better know as Pure Evil, for the third of their popular Design At Home auctions.

The auction will take place at the Pure Evil Galleries on Leonard Street in the heart of Hoxton, East London, from 11am on Sunday 7 April 2019. Viewing will be held on the Friday and Saturday before, and there will be a launch event with lively, interactive gallery talks on Friday evening.

This follows the highly successful sale of a selection of prototypes, artist’s proofs and other unique artworks by Pure Evil in a previous design auction at Dawson’s.

Mark Hill told ANF: “All of us in this business have to think of innovative ways of constantly appealing to existing buyers, as well as introducing new buyers of all ages to the art and antiques we sell. Charles and I realised that we both face many of the same issues, and that we can help each other succeed further by sharing our audiences and marketplaces. It has to work for each of us, and we’re sure it will. I’m excited.”

Charles Uzzell-Edwards of Pure Evil continued, “I think working with Dawson’s on this project means a new direction and I’m tremendously excited to be stepping off into a new adventure and a new project. It’ll definitely be an exciting crossover and I look forward to seeing where this goes…I’ve been spending time looking at antiques and collectables thinking ‘What can I do with that?’ and this seems like a perfect example. Kind of wish I had thought of it first, but kudos to Dawson’s for suggesting it to me. I had to say YES.”

Items already consigned for sale include sculptures by Kenneth Armitage R.A. and Oliffe Richmond, paintings by Margo Hoff and William Crozier, an early woodcut by Tracey Emin, a collection of postwar glass (a personal favourite of Hill’s), and an array of 20th century mid-century modern furniture including a unique desk by Fred Baier. The sale will also include a curated section of street art by Pure Evil and his group of friends.

Further consignments of art and design made from 1850 to today will be accepted until late-February - contact Mark Hill at mark@dawsonsauctions.co.uk or on 07798 915474.
