ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Sporting a new and contemporary title Art Antiques Cheshire, 23-25 February 2018 at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa near Knutsford is a now very well established stylish antiques and fine art fair, in the boutique style very much at home in one of them most luxurious hotels in Cheshire. Deftly mixing antiques and fine art with furnishings and contemporary design objects and peppering the mix with antiquities, the event has a broad approach and relaxed atmosphere.

Around 25 specialist antiques and fine art dealers gather to entice interior decorators, collectors, private and corporate buyers, as well as those just seeking antiques and the finer things in life.

New faces exhibiting at the fair this year include Carnes Fine Art from Lancashire, Greenstein Antiques from Grays in London’s Mayfair, Stephen Kalms Antiques from the London Silver Vaults and Les & Rhoda Howard Small Silver Collectables from Cheshire.

Fileman Antiques - A St Louis ruby glass scent bottle on crown paperweight base, French, c1850. Priced at £960.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Haynes Fine Art- Pimlico & Cotswolds will be offering a comprehensive display of fine art from the 19th to the 21st centuries to appeal to all manner of tastes including a Brian Shields aka Braaq FBA (1951 - 1997), entitled 'I’ve just seen me first pair of "Tits"', signed with 'Ann' insignia, Priced at £45,000-55,000.

Another highlight is an oil painting entitled La Marne à Ussy-sur-Marne by Henri Hayden (1883 - 1970) on Carne Fine Art’s stand selling for £12,500. Hayden, born in Warsaw, moved to Paris in 1907 and was greatly inspired by Paul Cézanne.

A rare and exhibition quality walnut stool made by quality cabinet makers Blain & Co, Liverpool, dated 1855 and with the workman’s signature on the frame priced at £1,850 from Melody Antiques, specialists in oak and country furniture. A highlight on the stand of local Cheshire dealers Church Street Antiques’ will be a pair of Gillows drinks cabinets, dated 1895 (£8,500).

Odyssey offers a comprehensive display of antiquities and coins from most classical and medieval cultures including a striking piece of ancient jewellery - a Roman gold, garnet, emerald and glass bracelet (£3,500) and a rare Greek Colonies ‘face’ plate. Beauty was certainly in the ‘eye of the beholder’ when this ancient Greek plate was painted in the third century BC. Priced at £475.

Although Valentine’s Day will have just passed when the fair opens, any visiting romantic soul is likely to be beguiled by a dizzying display of jewellery including a Chopard 'LOVE' heart necklace, set with sapphires and diamonds, or two hearts in one in 18 carat white gold and diamonds, both from Plaza. An 18 carat gold fancy coloured heart-shaped sapphire and diamond shamrock brooch, c1900 (£3,900) from T Robert is alsol likely to appeal! Other jewellery experts include Anderson Jones Ltd, Greenstein Antiques and Shapiro & Co.

Fileman Antiques, well known antique lighting specialist, is also bringing a selection of attractive antique scent bottles such as a St Louis ruby glass scent bottle set on a paperweight base (£960) and a Victorian silver mounted cameo scent bottle, hallmarked Edmund Bennett, London 1887 (£850).  Stephen Kalms Antiques is exhibiting a range of notable pieces of silver. Amongst the 19th and 20th century bronze sculptures on Garret & Hurst Sculpture’s stand is Faucheur by Adrien Gaudez (1845-1902) which was exhibited at the Salon of 1899 (£7,250). J Dickinson Maps & Prints specialises in fine quality antique maps and prints covering most areas of the United Kingdom.
