Art & Antiques Fair Olympia Launches Interior Design Talk Series

Antiques News - Antique Fair - The Art & Antiques Fair Olympia 2017

The Art & Antiques Fair Olympia, taking place from 26 June – 2 July 2017, will mark its 45th year, making it the UK's longest running fair.  The popular event offers London's largest selection of art and antiques, from Classical Roman objects to C20th and contemporary art, with prices ranging from £100 to hundreds of thousands.

This year sees the launch of the first Interior Design Talk Series, featuring top design experts discussing a variety of topics and providing inspiration and advice on using some of the items available at the fair.

Interiors designers speaking this year include: Henrietta Spencer Churchill, Douglas Mackie, Christopher vane Percy, April Russel, Emma Burns from Sibyl Colefax and John Fowler, Susie Rumbold and Caroline de Cabarrus from Hotspur Design.  Speakers from the fair’s regular talks programme include broadcaster Mark Hill and curators from Tate Britain and the British Museum.

Fair Director, Mary Claire Boyd said, "We are excited about our new Interior Design Talk Series. There is a strong demand for advice from experts on how to incorporate art and antiques into interiors and previous designer talks have been very well attended. We are taking it to the next level this year by hosting topdesigners throughout the run of the fair."  

Here is a little more about this year's speakers:

Henrietta Spencer Churchill

In 1986, Henrietta formed Spencer-Churchill Designs producing a selection of furniture, fabrics and wallpapers and in 2003 established a US design company, Spencer-Churchill Designs Inc,. Henrietta wrote her first book “Classic English Interiors” in 1990, followed by nine further books. Henrietta is an International Lecturer. She is on the advisory board of the New York School of Interior Design and teaches there and at other schools in London.

Caroline de Cabarrus

Caroline has over 30 years experience in the design and antiques world, having started her career in interior design in the 1980s, sourcing antiques for clients.  This evolved into an international business advising how to decorate houses from a variety of historic periods. Projects she has worked on range from Georgian Town Houses in Mayfair to an Art Deco penthouse on Fifth Avenue in New York.  

Douglas Mackie

Douglas Mackie has been recognised by House and Garden magazine as one of the 100 leading UK designers since 2009. He set up his own company in 1995, and has built up a loyal clientele internationally.

April Russell

April Russell trained at London’s Inchbald school of design and at Sotheby’s before working at Piers Westenholz and Percy Bass. Working with clients at her own longstanding Chelsea practice often involves visits to art galleries and meetings with art consultants, as April believes that paintings and sculpture are powerful ways to convey a person’s interests and individuality.

Christopher Vane Percy

After starting his design career with Asprey, Christopher Vane Percy formed his own company, CVP Designs, in 1971. Projects range from private London houses to commercial assignments and international commissions. Recent projects include the refurbishment of Trinity House, a Grade I listed building in the City of London and the re-designing of a large Victorian country house in Cumbria. Included in Architectural Digest’s AD100, ‘An Exclusive Guide to the World’s Finest Interior Designers’, Christopher’s work has often been published.

Emma Burns

Emma is the senior designer at Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, which was founded in the 1930s and is the longest established interior decorating firm in Great Britain, as well as one of the most respected.  Its reputation for work of the highest quality remains unchallenged.  The company’s current generation of designers have over 150 years of collective experience between them, and are as used to creating 21st century interiors as they are working on important historic buildings. The majority of commissions are private and residential, ranging from some of Britain’s most notable stately homes to modern city apartments, ranches in the Wild West or South America, ski chalets and tropical beach houses The client list includes royalty and rock stars.

Grant Pierrus Interior Style Hunter

Grant trained as an Interior Designer and Interior Stylist at Central Saint Martins in London in 2014/15 and followed up with training from KLC School of Design. He set up the Interior Style Hunter blog as a way to share his passion and knowledge of interior design with the aim of helping readers to be more confident in creating beautiful spaces. He believes that everybody should have access to good design.

Susie Rumbold

Susie is the Founder and Creative Director of Tessuto, a successful, multidisciplinary design studio, based in London. Established in 1993, Susie has built up a prestigious portfolio of commercial and private clients. Her practice specialises in both the design of large residential developments for the sales and private rental sectors, and luxury homes for private clients. Susie is regularly approached for expert commentary on interior design issues and appears frequently in the national and trade media. She is also in-demand as a speaker on interior design, giving talks and chairing discussions at design events across the country. Susie is President of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID).

Giles Kime

Giles Kime, interiors editor of Country Life, is a creative executive with extensive experience of innovation and content development across a range of leading consumer brands including The Telegraph, Decanter and Homes & Gardens. He has had two interiors books published, ‘Decorating’ and ‘Decorate to Speculate’.

The Peartree Collection - A Comte Enguerrand du Suau de la Croix pendant, made with silver and plique jour enamel set with pearls, diamonds and rubies. Dating from around 1905, other examples of his work are in the Musee d'Orsay.
