FRIDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2008

Tony Keniston continues to coordinate National Antiques Day for 2008. Please telephone 07000 268 478, simply dial 07000 ANTIQUES

The aim is to publicise the advantages dealers offer to both buyers and sellers of antiques and to introduce newcomers to the world of antiques. Many people have still to discover the advantage of purchasing collectables and practical antiques, such as furniture, that appreciate in value whilst being appreciated in the home.

The date for National Antiques Day 2009 will be announced in October 2008

GREAT DAY FOR SALES

Building on the success of National Antiques Day in previous years antiques dealers throughout the country are preparing for the eleventh annual event on  Friday 28th November 2008.

THE annual National Antiques Day in Britain last year proved a great success for dealers who took the initiative and did something special. They not only attracted the attention of the media but made an additional worthwhile profit.

The aim is for every dealer to take the initiative and encourage newcomers into the world of antiques and to publicise the fact that dealers offer the best value to buyers in the world of antiques.
One of the brightest ideas ever to enter the antiques trade calendar, National Antiques Day 2007 was once again a day to remember, especially for the people who bought their first antique then.

Besides advance notice in the leading antiques publications, press and radio stations got over the message of the advantage of dealing with dealers when it comes to buying and selling antiques. Coverage of National Antiques Day on radio and television and in newspapers and magazines has exceeded expectations every year.

The BADA, The British Antique Dealers’ Association and LAPADA, The Association of Art and Antique Dealers, led the trade association support. Individual dealers downloaded posters from the internet, organised exhibitions and other events. Publicity appeared in many local newspapers
.
Throughout Britain, dealers' individual initiatives on National Antiques Day will draw attention to their own businesses and the antiques trade in general.  National Antiques Day is always on a Friday so there is potential to continue the events over the weekend.
PARTICIPATE FOR PROFIT AND PLEASURE

If every dealer in Britain participated wholeheartedly, National Antiques Day could achieve publicity worth more than the combined multi-million pound marketing machines of all the international auction houses.

Many dealers and fair organisers throughout the country at all levels of the trade have already contributed in recent years to the success of this occasion.

It costs nothing to participate!

Free publicity posters can be downloaded from Here

Antiquesnews offers editorial support to any antiques premises arranging activities or promotions on the day so please contact the editor mail@antiquesnews.co.uk  in good time if you have any plans.

IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR SUCCESS ON THE DAY

"Enjoy a glass of wine out of an antique glass" – an advertising slogan inviting anyone who has never been into an antique shop to visit on the day.

Or advertise “Buy something old” - a selling exhibition based on current stock, opening on National Antiques Day and continuing over the weekend or longer.

Or “Antiques are Green” – the largest recycling business in the world is the antiques trade!

Fair organisers use National Antiques Day to publicise forthcoming events.

Dealers arrange an “Antiques Phone-In” on the local radio station. Listeners call with questions about the antiques world and there are one or two local dealers in the studio to answer them.

Joining with other dealers in the same town or at the same fair can increase the impact – dealers in the same area could combine to organise an “Antiques Trail” for the day with a printed route map.  Dealers with large premises could host stock from other dealers in the group or antique dealers’ association to make more impact.

Simply asking someone looking at stock "Have you heard about National Antiques Day" is an ideal way to start a conversation with a potential customer
.
Antique dealers’ associations could promote the event on their web sites

Advance publicity of National Antiques Day with a poster in the window or on a stall or stand at a fair extends the impact of the opportunity to encourage more and more people to buy from dealers.

National Antiques Day is co-ordinated by www.antiquesnews.co.uk the internet newspaper for the British antiques trade.
